Previously we have talked about diabetes. We understood that What is diabetes and causes of Diabetes and much more. In this post, we will learn about Diabetes types, i.e., type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes. Also, we will include LADA diabetes (latent autoimmune diabetes of Adulthood), and also we will talk about gestational diabetes. Please read it till the end.
The patient with diabetes either have a scarcity of insulin(Type 1 diabetes) or the patient cannot use insulin effectively (type 2 diabetes ). Hence there are two major diabetes types, type 1 diabetes, and type 2 diabetes. Additionally, we also have a look on Lada diabetes and Gestational diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetes type 1 also known as Juvenile-onset or insulin dependent diabetes. People with type 1 diabetes patient are in the range 5% to 10% of the total diabetic patient. It happened when the immune system by mistake kills the beta cells of the pancreas. Beta cells have a role in releasing the insulin into the body. There is no insulin which plays a key role in the opening of a cell. The glucose remains in the blood(increase blood sugar). Therefore no formation of ATP takes place in the mitochondria. No gain of energy which ultimately shows less capability to do work. The Target patient of this diabetes is children, adolescent and sometimes in adulthood.
The Insulin helps in Medication of this diabetes. The well-planned diet regulates the blood sugar.
LADA stands for latent autoimmune diabetes of adulthood. This LADA Diabetes is interesting to know about LADA diabetes. There is somehow a misconception about this types of diabetes. Some doctors diagnosed it as type 1 diabetes, and another doctor diagnosed it as type 2 diabetes. The reason is that in this LADA diabetes, body immune system attacks and kills the insulin producing beta cells. This LADA diabetes resembles to type 1 diabetes, but it happens over an extended period about the people with age group 30-50 years. Later it proved that it is a form of type 1 diabetes. It develops more slowly than type 1 diabetes in childhood. Since it resembles to type 2 diabetes, the doctor diagnosed it as type 2 diabetes.
Professor Richard David Leslie principle investigator of action LADA diabetes. He stated that LADA is defined as initially non-insulin requiring diabetes.LADA diabetes has diagnosed in the patient of age group 30-50 years with antibodies to GAD(Glutamic Acid decarboxylase).
Type 2 Diabetes
The Type 2 Diabetes is also known as adult-onset or non-insulin dependent diabetes.
In type 2 diabetes the body cannot properly utilize the insulin that is released called insulin resistance, or body cannot prepare much insulin for the body. This condition of insulin leads to the building of blood sugar instead of being used as ATP(energy).
It can occur at any phase of life. But it is most common in the age of 40-65 age group of people. Majority of individuals are suffering from Type 2 diabetes. Around 90-95% of with diabetes belongs to this kind of diabetes. About 3.6 million human beings in the United Kingdom diagnosed with the condition.
For few types of patient, type 2 diabetes could control by the planned diet and exercise including yoga. In some cases, People with type 2 diabetes requires Proper Medication. Sometimes, the doctor prescribes insulin to the patient to control the blood sugar.
Gestational diabetes is the third type of diabetes.Gestational diabetes does not last long condition. But gestational diabetes has relevant affects about 2-4% of all women with pregnancies (in the non-aboriginal population). Gestational diabetes increases the risk for the both Mother and baby.
